Mary Shelley nació en Londres en la época de la Revolución Industrial. Su madre murió cuando solo tenía once días y fue educada por su padre, el excéntrico filósofo William Goldwin, que se volvió a casar unos años después. Así nació Frankestein, la novela de ciencia ficción más conocida de la historia.

Mary Shelley was born in London at the time of the Industrial Revolution. Her mother died when she was only eleven days old and she was raised by her father, the eccentric philosopher William Goldwin, who remarried a few years later. Mary grew up loving books, especially her writings by her mother, the feminist philosopher and writer Mary Wollstonecraft, who greatly influenced her. She met the poet Percy Shelley, whom she fell in love with and with whom she eloped. One stormy night, at a gathering of friends, Lord Byron suggested that each of them write their own horror story. Thus was born Frankestein, the best known science fiction novel in history.
