In 1974, Koko (a gorilla trained to use sign language at Standford University) asked the scientists observing her to give her a cat. Thus began the friendship between Koko and All Ball, a tailess feline that Koko adopted as if it were her own child. Months later, the cat disapperared, and for several days Koko expressed her sadness through the signs she knew how to use. thus began a discussion as to whether non-human species can feel human emotions, and, inspired by this event, Anghony Browne spins the tale of a gorilla (his famous alter ego) who, isolated in captivity, asks his guards to find him a friend. This is how little Linda becomes part of his life. Soon, they are best friends willing to do anything in ofer to stay together.
