Description

A bold story about the transition to adulthood of a queer girl seeking her place in the world.

Juliet Milagros Palante is a Puerto Rican lesbian teenager, born in the Bronx.

It is still "in the closet," although not as much as she thinks. One night before traveling to Portland, Oregon, where she has managed to land a summer job with her favorite feminist writer, Juliet confesses the truth to her family. But when her official announcement doesn't go as expected, she is convinced that her mother will never speak to her again.

But, Juliet has a plan. Well more or less. Your work with legendary author Harlowe Brisbane, the supreme authority on feminism, women's anatomy, and “gay” issues, will surely help you figure out how this lesbian and Puerto Rican thing works. Except Harlowe is white. And it doesn't come from the Bronx. And she definitely doesn't have all the answers ...

In a summer brimming with queer parties, topped off by a romantic adventure with a biker librarian and mixed with intense explorations of race and identity, Juliet learns what it means to come out of the closet and fit in with the world, with her family and with herself.
